Inspiring young people to own their emotions and be safe and strong

The slideshow below represents a few ideas excerpted from a sample assembly-length program for high school students. Students have responded positively to this program, which tells them, in practical terms, why they and others feel the way they do, and how to handle their emotional ups and downs.

This program can also be developed, with school partners, as an online presentation to be made available to students for self-directed learning.

Why this matters:

Helping students to understand the relationship between their minds and their bodies, their thinking and their emotions, is a critical need. Too many high school students are involved in violence, bullying, substance abuse and other self-destructive behaviors. Too many high school students suffer  loss of hope, lack of motivation, fear of failure, depression, and low self-esteem.

When students come to understand themselves and others, they are able to navigate the ups and downs of puberty, the challenges of high school, the difficulties of life and family circumstances that are beyond their control.

Many high school teachers and counselors have responded to their own training in the Three Principles with a renewed sense of courage and optimism in the face of the stresses and pressures of their jobs, feeling they have more to offer their students, and greater confidence that they can awaken the innate health and resiliency even in the most troubled young people.

This presentation can be offered directly to students, or developed, in conjunction with teachers and counselors, as part of special training for those who serve our students.
